“Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?” (Matthew 6:27)
In this society we live in today tells us we need to have this or that, or look like this, or buy that car, or have that person, or that job. This world is full of distractions and temptations to “satisfied”, but the thing is if we look to possessions or wealth to make us happy we will always whined up empty and then try to seek more and end up empty all over again. I believe it is because God has designed us to go to Him when we are “weary and burdened and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28).
What causes worry?
I believe in order to get rid or worrying we must figure out what causes you to worry in the first place. For example, if you know you start to worry when you have an exam coming up because you haven’t been studying for it, then maybe you should study for it instead of worrying about it! Worry isn’t from God. Worry is from the evil one who tells us we must overthink and be careful and look out into the future. The thing is worrying is living in the future. When you worry it is impossible to focus on the present at the same time. That is why God calls us to “Be still and know that I am God” and He says “I am your refuge and ever-present help in trouble” (Psalm 46:1 & 10).
How to get rid of worry?
In the book “How to stop worrying and start Living” Dale Carnegie tells us we must first accept the worst. Meaning if you are worrying about something that might happen in the future accept the worst possible thing that could be the outcome. Once you accept the worst possible thing create a plan and take steps to make sure it wont happen, but if it does you will be prepared. When we worry we must act on faith. If we just sit back and expect God to just “take care of us” nothing will happen. Odds are God is waiting for you to move the Spirit inside of you instead of you trying to think the Spirit will just move itself.
Another way to get rid of worrying is to lay all your requests at Gods feet. Meaning whatever it is you are worrying about give it to God and let it go. Once we let it go and realize God is in control are worries start to fade. However they will only start to fade if you believe that God is in control. We must have faith in God and realize that “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future” (Jeremiah 29:11)
If you put both of these practices into action you will see results.
In order to fully let go of worries we must let go of fears and doubts too. Surrender it all to God and let Him take control because He is in control! The way we start living is by living in obedience to God seek His Kingdom and Righteousness and all other things will be added unto us (Matthew 6:33). The bible tells us if we seek Him we will be given the desires of our hearts so start by fearing the Lord instead of fearing the future because the future is already set we just have to walk in it even in the midst of the storms. So stop worrying and start living to the fullest today!
